How social media is transforming the market--and art media--was the subject of a lively panel staged by the startup Arternal at the New Museum's NEW INC. With moderator Taylor Dafoe of artnet news, Kasmin Gallery's Molly Taylor, Sarah Douglas of ARTnews, and Cornell DeWitt of  Daily Plinth, we explored a new gallery landscape where foot traffic is down--and digital and social media content is way up. As galleries embrace the possibilities of self-publishing, they are increasingly bypassing traditional media like magazines as platforms for ads--and for editorial coverage. We talked about trends and challenges in this fast-changing art-content space, and offered tips for dealers to build followings and clientele in creative and cutting-edge ways.
