This season, treat the artists in your life to a gift that will keep on giving–career development workshops from journalist, coach, and mentor Robin Cembalest

Cembalest, the former editor of ARTnews and a member of Art Students League’s Career Development program, teaches skills in writing, social media, public speaking, self-promotion, and more in individual and group classes.

With her decades of expertise, she offers artists strategies to position themselves and their work, to describe who they are and what they do, and to tell that story in person, on their websites, and social media. She explains how to find opportunity in open calls, registries, and other programs, and how to build networks and connections.

Whether your loved one is a current student, a recent graduate, or well along in their career, these workshops will empower them to define and achieve their goals.

The Reviews Are In!

“I had the pleasure of laughing for two hours straight as Robin used her wit to deliver some serious food for thought about social media, messaging and elevator pitches. Robin’s delivery is relaxed and comfortable as she demystifies the writing process for artists. After she broke down all the parts of well-written editorial structures, I left feeling confident that I had the ingredients to cook up my own written content for short and long artist bios and statements for all sorts of contexts, as well as some key tweaks to optimize my Instagram and website.”
—Eva Avenue, artist and student recruiter, Art Students League

“Robin's classes for the residents at ISCP are practical, fun, and transformative. She gives artists and curators plenty of immediate, individualized feedback, and guidance that gets them to keep thinking about how to best communicate about what they do long after the workshop has ended. Whether you're feeling stuck and need a serious overhaul or just want to shake things up a bit, I cannot recommend these classes more.”
—Alison Kuo, Director of Programs, International Studio & Curatorial Program

“Working with Robin is the equivalent of tapping into an entire editorial team with vast knowledge and experience in all things art and media. She is a social media guru with a sharp eye and discerning voice, an essential guide for our world of information and media overload.”
— Lisa Kim, Gallery Director, Ford Foundation

“Robin’s breadth of knowledge in art writing and art viewing is evident in each coaching session. Robin gives individual attention and time to understand the artist’s journey and overall needs when assisting with the development and refinement of the artist statement.”
—Lindsay Adams, Artist

“Robin teaches the things you don't learn in school: How to talk, share, and promote your work.”
—Michael Ano, Director of Public Programs and Engagement, 18th Street Arts
