Crafting Your Artist Statement

  • Robin Cembalest Editorial Strategies 205 3rd Avenue New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

A Writing Class Created Especially for Artists

For visual artists, it’s a classic challenge: How do you sum up your identity and your art practice in 150 words? This workshop will teach you how.

Whether you’re just starting your statement or urgently need an update, artists at any stage of their careers will benefit from this empowering writing workshop with Robin Cembalest, former ARTnews editor and a widely published journalist. She teaches versions of this popular class at MFA programs, artist residencies, and professional organizations, in person and online.

Drawing on her deep expertise in contemporary art and knowledge of the art industry, Robin helps each participant to define and position their practice. Using her experience as an editor, she demystifies the writing process and helps every student to communicate more effectively.

She'll share a helpful template she created to help you get started, and examples of bios and statements from wide range of artists and creative practices.

Then she’ll answer questions and offer valuable feedback on the bio of each participant.

You’ll come away with skills and strategies to translate your ideas into clear, accessible prose for your website, along with your marketing campaigns, grant applications, and more!

Sign up at Eventbrite. 8 seats, $75. This event occurs on Zoom.
